Worst Reality Action-Movie Ever September 11, 2001

Fifteen years ago, in September 2001 I left Toronto, Canada for a two year sojourn in Waterloo, Canada for a Master's degree. I was already lonely. It was my first time so far away from the familiar - home, friends and relatives. It was a tough period. I didn't shed any tears from my eyes on my face but my heart was bleeding tears in torrents. Not all the time though. It was a beautiful new place. Prosperous- Food, peace, security... everything. But I was alone unmarried and not in a relationship obviously. I felt lost.

A week or two after I arrived in Waterloo. I think it was the very next week. I was living on Westmount RD NW. A tenant of another Nigerian student- Kingsley. Ok, I was in a classroom at Needles Hall, probably just finished lectures or maybe it was a computer laboratory when someone said something about an aeroplane hitting a building in New York. Of course guys, surreal is the word. It could be anything. I didn't pay any attention. It was a white young fellow, said it in passing to his friends not a general announcement of the the gloomy picture it was going to become in the hours following. To cut the story short by evening of my first week in Waterloo for a Masters in Civil Engineering at the University of waterloo, I witnessed on CNN the first major terrorist attack of the 21st century. I got to out apartment that night. Kingsley was still in school. And I remembered I was lonely and weeping internally. I started crying. No sounds just tears down my eyes like a kid who had been forced to tears by something really distressing. It was a combination of the shock of normal folk I could identify with being in an office for their days work being crushed and burnt to death. ... So that was one of the possible scenarios after I graduated and got a much desired high paying job. (retrospection is the logic here). I dried my eyes before Kingsley got back later. Yeah, also I might have cried because I had family in the USA (Maryland) that I chose not to live with at the time and had left the comfort of their home to live by myself in Canada.

It's been 15 years, the world has changed thoroughly. Nothing makes me cry anymore: theatre shooting, park shootings or mall shootings. I pray for world peace as we remember the victims of September 11, 2001-  the police, firefighters, the people. (That's me visiting the memorial in 2013.)

Weekly Box Office: May 27-June 2, 2016

Topping the charts this week of May 27-June 2, 2016 is "X-men: Apocalypse". Followed closely by "Alice Through the Looking Glass." I have an Angry Bird themed suitcase, so number 3 is personal. For the life of  me, I don't know what excites people about the Angry Birds game. I have never played it but I once had "Angry Pigs" game on my phone featuring slingshoting pigs trying to storm a city or so. This week gross from theatres for X-men: Apocalypse is $94,173,232. Ninety-Four million, One hundred and Seventy-three thousand, two hundred and thirty-two dollars. That's a big number but let's wait and see if it doubes by next week. Peace people.

"Captain America: Civil War" still on top of table

Topping the charts this week for second week in a row is "Captain America: Civil War." Total gross so far is $314 million, up $91 million from the box office gross from last week. With a movie budget of $250 million, that is a decent profit on the investment made. ROI is 0.256 based on the formula I
pulled from google: ROI = (GAIN - COST)/COST. I am an economics novice. So I welcome any pointers in the right direction.

April 22 - 28 "May day, may day". "The Jungle Book" still tops.

It's May day today. I borrow a line from the young negro spiritual (pun sort of intended): "The Jungle Book" baby!!

"The Jungle Book" tops the chart April 25

"The jungle book" is the top movie this week. The top movie from last week, "The Boss" has dropped to No. 3. So far "The Boss" has raked in $43 million, that's $14 million profit so far over the $29 million budget. For this week, the top movie for the first time since I re-started my box office followership, the total gross from ticket sales so far is $130 million which is still approximately $45 million shy of the $175 million budget. I'll write that in words to emphasize "One hundred and seventy-five million dollars only. And I added "only" just like we all do on our cheque books.

Today is April 18th:

It's the third week since I started blogging. The aim of my writing expendition is to share my interest in the hollywood movie industry in North America. American being a entertainment conscious country can been observed from the weekly box office record (my definition of box office is the box like kiosk structures from which movie tickets are sold). Just to emphasis my point, if I get a gift of $30 million that will change my life and could change the lives of 30 others who wont have to work for the rest of their lives. This week the top movie is "The Boss" from Universal studios. It cost $29 million to make and in one week has earned $30 million plus.

hollywood chart topers April 04- 10, 2016

On the blog this week, there no difference in the order of top earning movies from hollywood this week. Looking down the list, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is the one I personally will love to see for sentimental reason. Yes, top actress on original movie is Canadian. Ok, From No. 1 movie- Batman, total gross is $273 million that a gross difference of $23 million so far. Last week, my percentages were wrong. I apologise. Afterall, "to err is human".

March 25-31, 2016

I hope to keep this up. I love blockbuster movies and this used to be a favorite activity years ago watching the box office. We saw the days of BlockBusters before Netflix and 1TB laptops. For top movie, 84% ROI in first week in the theatre. Movie budget stands at USD$250 million and total ticket sale in first week at theatres across the USA was USD$209 million. I will have to confirm if this applies to European theatres as well. Hollywood spends and earns big dollars.
